Having accumulated various BBC articles via eBay in the last 8 months, I have once again set up my pride and joy - a BBC Master that I converted to a Master 512, which I have connected to a 6502 second processor. This is now assembled in an area that does not conflict with other activities, e.g. piano playing and normal PC operation.
Tube Elite is fantastic and I am now Elite standard and waiting for the additional hidden secret missions.
I really believe the BBC system with disk operation is fast and was only really for the Schools and the rich in the early 1980's.
I very much like this website. Unbelievably, I have still not used the 512 functions yet, but I will over time!
I now am able to write ssd disks on my pc(laptop running WinXP) and create images from files created on the BBC to the PC(laptop running Win98SE)!

Miss my BBC so much though it makes me remember of good days gone by.

Brilliant site! There were so many really good programs in the magazines back then. I cannot understand why I haven't seen this site before. (Perhaps the reason is that '8bs' isn't quite as catchy a name as "Stairway to hell" and "The BBC lives!") I don't wish to sound as a commercial but the way I found this site was through it being mentioned in Retrogamer magazine in their recent Acorn feature. (And I think the BBC Micro is also in the Retro section of GamesTM this month - about time too!)

I have recently decided to take the plunge and buy a BBC Master. I used to use our family BBC B many years back in the 1980's running games such as Elite. Up until recently, I have been running the emulator Beebem and using a special solidisk rom that I downloaded somewhere to play the enhanced version of BBC disk Elite, namely Elite A. This is an amazing game and last week I finally reached Elite standard.
I have only just received the Master(actually have 2!) and am awaiting a data transfer cable by RS423 to write games and applications onto 5.25 inch diskettes using the software XFer. I hope this is a relatively straightforward procress. All I can stress to anyone who wants to buy a BBC kit is to buy some disk software initially. This wait for this lead is unbearable! One can not easily locate such a lead. 5-10 years ago, finding such an item was that much easier. Anyway, I am waiting to play Master Elite and continue with Elite A on the real article.
About this website, I think it is superb. There is a real growing retro climate out there. Let's face it, the BBC system with disk drive is comparitively fast compared to the booting up reqired by the 32 bit and 64 bit machines of today.

I'm currently creating a new site called AcornSource dedicated towards the now-defunct Acorn / BBC machines series and the software which could be run on them. If anyone is interested in taking a look at the site as it stands at the moment, please give it a shot. We already have in place rather extensive graphic representations of the Acorn series and a nice illustration of the Model 'B' in our history section.
It's going to take a while to finish the site, but when its complete, I hope to have it accepted as part of the Acorn Webring.
Best Wishes - Orlok.

Some items were brand new in their original wrappings. The goods I asked for arrived extremely well packaged and showed that a lot of time and thought had been given to the packing. Chris's knowledge is to be marvelled at and is in my opinion the number one Internet site for anything to do with the BBC computer range. The Web site is well organised and the photographic images and descriptions are a world source for research. The whole site is easy to use and well constructed.
